How to use engine flushing oil

Flushing the engine when changing consumables raises many questions among drivers. Is it necessary to do it? How will this affect the condition of the engine? Changing engine lubricant is one of the most important procedures included in maintenance.

It is not surprising that on various auto forums, user opinions on this matter vary greatly. Each car owner must independently assess whether flushing is required or not.

  • When is flushing necessary?

    It is impossible to answer this question unambiguously. Each case must be considered separately. However, there are certain situations in which it is worth flushing the engine:

  • filling with grease from another manufacturer. Sometimes products from different manufacturers cannot be mixed due to different manufacturing techniques;
  • changing the viscosity of the motor oil. For example, when switching from synthetic oil to semi-synthetic oil, the internal combustion engine must be flushed;
  • lack of information about the maintenance carried out earlier. Often a used car does not have a service book. It is better to play it safe and wash the engine;
  • completion of a major overhaul of the power unit. The need for flushing is due to the dismantling of the cylinder head;
  • foreign fluids in the engine. Sometimes low-quality lubricant, coolant, bad fuel, and other liquids penetrate the engine.
  • Flushing the engine with flushing oil it is not necessary to carry out for a car bought in the salon.

    There are drivers who spend a lot of energy looking for a miracle remedy that can solve all their problems with internal combustion engines in fifteen to twenty minutes.

    Today, instead of using flushing oil, drivers prefer to use special flushing fluids.

    Disadvantages of flushing the engine when changing lubricant

    The oil fluids now being produced already contain everything that the engine needs. Special additives contained in the oil wash the engine parts. So why flush then?

    It must be taken into account that it is impossible to drain all the lubricant from the motor. About ten percent of it will remain in the crankcase, sump, and spare parts. Consequently, fresh oil fluid will mix with the remaining used oil.

    Due to the fact that flushing agents contain alkalis that corrode dirt, the characteristics of the new oil will significantly deteriorate when mixed with them. This will have a bad effect on the condition of the engine.

    Consequences of dangerous engine flushing

    All this also applies to flushing oils, but they are not so alkaline and have less effect on the engine. Is it worth using them? It is better to refuse washing. The exceptions are the situations listed above.

    Flushing the engine is definitely not required if the driver bought the car from a dealership and performed the maintenance correctly (observed service intervals, filled only high-quality motor oil). You can wash the internal combustion engine if you purchased the car second-hand.

    Engine flushing methods, products used

    There are 4 methods for flushing the motor, which are used both when changing lubricants and during major repairs:

  • Car wash oil. The used oil is drained, then oil is poured into the power unit for flushing. They drive the car for a couple of days in a mode that is gentle on the engine. This method is not popular, because you need to visit a car service, pay for the work of its employees, carefully use the vehicle.
  • Washing liquid. This tool is used in the same way as washing oil, but it does its job much faster. This is due to its more alkaline composition. To carry out flushing, you need to pour the product into the power unit (directly into the used grease), then start the engine and let it idle for about a quarter of an hour. Then the old car oil is drained along with the flushing agent, and fresh oil is poured into the internal combustion engine.
  • Frequent oil change. The most "gentle" method of flushing the engine. The used lubricant and oil filter are changed, then they drive about a couple of thousand kilometers by car. Then they carry out the replacement again, drive four thousand kilometers, perform the replacement.
  • Washing the disassembled power unit. Everything is done by hand. The motor is dismantled, it is disassembled, all spare parts are washed with gasoline / kerosene. At the same time, an assessment of the state of the internal combustion engine is given. Of course, this washing method requires significant financial and time costs, but it is considered the most reliable of all methods.

    Flushing procedure

    In order to properly flush the internal combustion engine, you need to follow a special algorithm. If possible, place the car on a lift before starting the procedure.

  • In order not to burn the skin if it is likely to come into contact with the lubricant, allow the engine to cool slightly.
  • Climb under the bottom of the car and find the oil drain cover.
  • Place a bucket under the drain, remove the lid.
  • Wait half an hour for all the old consumable to drain.
  • Close the lid.
  • Start pouring the flushing agent into the engine.
  • After filling is completed, remove the oil filter and install a new one.
  • Start the power unit and let it run for a few minutes.
  • Discard the flushing agent.
  • Now you can pour fresh engine oil.

    Remember that after flushing the engine, the oil change will need to be done 2 times faster. For example, if you previously changed the lubricant every ten thousand kilometers, now you will need to do it every five thousand kilometers.

    Well-known manufacturers of ICE flushing agents

    ZIK products dissolve formations and contaminants in a car engine. In addition, they protect parts from corrosive and oxidative effects, and prevent foaming of the lubricant. Liquids do not harm seals, extend the operating period of the engine.

    Rosneft products are mineral water produced by combining various additive substances. They are used for quick and high-quality cleaning of the engine running on gasoline / diesel. Rosneft fluids are able to effectively remove carbon deposits and other deposits.

    The company's products are used in gasoline / diesel engines. They make it possible to get rid of various formations that appear in the internal combustion engine after prolonged operation.

    The main thing for which Spectrol liquids are intended is the removal of sediment remaining after draining the used consumable and negatively affecting the characteristics of the motor.

    "Liquid Moly"

    Currently, the funds of this organization are most popular among Russian consumers. The Internet is filled with reviews about their use, and on websites drivers actively discuss the effectiveness of using these fluids.

    Liquid Moli products clean the engine from carbon deposits that have appeared, reducing the operating period of the power unit. This is very relevant for cars operated in fairly harsh conditions, for example, in large metropolitan areas.

    TNK products are intended for flushing the lubrication complex of Russian cars before changing the oil. They are made from mineral water, to which detergent additives have been added.

    The manufacturer claims that its products clean the internal combustion engine from carbon deposits. It is worth mentioning that TNK flushing fluids include anti-foaming additives that allow high-quality cleaning of the power unit in any conditions.
